American Studies 10AC — Berkeley
Seeking two (2) teaching assistants (GSIs) for American Studies 10AC, a course that introduces students to an interdisciplinary approach to seeing and interpreting American histories and cultures, as revealed through an examination of UC Berkeley’s history, culture, and representations.
Teaching assistants will be responsible for teaching 1–2 sections per week, plus other duties, which include but are not limited to:
-Attending lecture (3 hours of lecture/week)
-Completing readings
-Holding 1–2 hours of office hours per week
-Record keeping
-Reading and grading 3–4 written assignments and 2–3 exams
-Periodic consultation meetings with the instructor
Qualifications: An ideal candidate will demonstrate familiarity with interdisciplinary subjects that span the humanities and the social sciences, particularly methodologies devoted to the study of place and/or time. Prior teaching experience is highly preferred, but is not required.

Seeking two GSIs for American Studies 102 – Wall Street/Main Street (Two GSIs)

Seeking a Graduate Student Reader for multiple upper-division American Studies classes with enrollments of 45 or more, including:
American Studies 101 – The Ordinary and Extraordinary 1890s (One Reader)
American Studies 101 – The American Camera: Photography. Modernity, and the 19th Century (One Reader)
American Studies 110 – Listening to America (Two Readers) – POSITIONS FILLED

Duties: Reading, assigning grades, and providing feedback for course assignments, papers, and/or exams (assignment number and type will vary according to course; please contact the instructor for more details).

American Studies C112 / Geography C160 —The American Landscape: Place, Power, and Culture
Seeking a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) for The American Landscape, a course that focuses on seeing and interpreting American histories and cultures, as revealed in everyday built surroundings.
GSI will be responsible for 1-2 sections per week, plus other duties, which includes but is not limited to:
-Lecture attendance
-Readings
-1-2 hours of office hours per week
-Record keeping
-Reading and grading of three assignments and two exams
-Occasional consultation meetings with the instructor
Qualifications: No prior knowledge of cultural geography is required, however, an ideal candidate will demonstrate familiarity with the interdisciplinary subjects that span the humanities and the social sciences. A strong preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of geographic methods, historical methods (e.g. archival research), anthropology, and/or art history, or working knowledge of professional fields such as architecture, city planning, and landscape architecture. Prior teaching experience is not required, but is welcome.
