Sophie Haugen
After graduation Sophie worked as a independent contractor for the California State Libraries continuing work on the You Count youth homelessness survey, for Ewald & Wasserman in San Francisco riding buses for research projects for the SFMTA, and for Five Keys programs as a grant writer for housing & homelessness department. She currently lives in Paris and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Urban Governance, Policy & Planning at Sciences Politique, and is researching informal settlements and wildfire resilience in Northern California, while enjoying the French mode de vie.
Tess Futterman
Tess graduated from UC-Berkeley in the Spring of 2023 with a degree in American Studies and minors in History and Public Policy. After graduating, she served as a Student Success Coach for City Year New York, supporting students at a systemically underserved elementary school. She currently works as the Program Coordinator for the Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences (QMSS) master’s program at Columbia University, where she manages academic affairs, operations, and enrichment activities for the program.
Nseke Ngilbus
After graduating, Nseke joined his dream company, IDEO, as a Design Researcher, where he worked on projects that spanned nonprofits, tech, and media. Those experiences gave him the chance to see how design could push boundaries and create impact for communities that often go unheard. After graduating with a major in Legal Studies and double minors in Chicano Studies and American Studies, Vanessa returned to Southern California to serve her community through both AmeriCorps and her local government. After graduating from UC Berkeley in Spring 2023, Jacqueline began work in Seoul and Tokyo as a freelance art director, collaborating on creative projects across design and fashion. Returning to the U.S. in 2024, she joined Vanguard Culture, a Southern California arts non-profit, where she writes on cultural events. Ava Eleanor Olson
Ava attended the Tin House Summer Workshop as a member of the 2023 Short Fiction cohort and currently works as a Course Reader in the American Studies department. If all goes well, they will be pursuing a PhD by Autumn 2024, studying Indigenous resource management and human-animal encounters on the American landscape.
Oona Fitzpatrick
After graduating with a double major in American Studies and Sociology, Oona began work as a mitigation investigator at Community Resource Initiative. As a mitigator, Oona works alongside people facing the death penalty and their families to tell holistic, life-affirming stories that challenge the singular narrative of justice imposed by the state.
